Adult Leader Activities and Programs

       Leader Appreciation Banquet - December 12, 2008. The first banquet of the new Armadillo District, recognition for unit leaders, Award of Excellence recipients and District Award of Merit honorees and much more.

          Roundtable - 2nd Thursday of each month, A time to get hands-on with the upcoming months themes, new ideas, sharing of information, and fellowship with fellow volunteers.  This is a time to receive help with opportunities and the latest information.

 

Other Events

          Annual Business Meeting - October 30, 2008, Report of the District, Election of the District Leadership and District Committee members. 

          Annual Volunteer Recognition Reception - February 20, 2009 the recognition of the Eagle Scouts of 2008, the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award, William H. Spurgeon III Award, Venturing Leadership, and the Silver Beaver Award highlight this special awards ceremony.

          District Committee Meeting - August 28, September 25, October 30, November 20, 2008.  January 29, February 26, March 26, April 30, May 28, June 25, 2009.

          Friends of Scouting Family Campaign - Starts January 2009, helps the council and district to provide services to units, with 6 council camping properties, scout service center, scout shop, professional staff, support staff, assistance to low income scouts, training, volunteer recognition, and much more.

VENTURING IS HAPPENING

What: the "Venturing is Happening" event is designed as a recruiting tool, AND TO HAVE A LOT OF FUN!!!

Prospective youth and adult members are welcome to attend with your Crew.

When: Sept. 20, 2008 starting at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 11:00 p.m.

Note: Lunch and Dinner will be provided, as well as popcorn at the outdoor movie.

Where: Lost Pines Boy Scout Camp located on the LCRA Lost Pines Scout Reservation.

Camping: Venturing Units wishing to camp at Lost Pines Boy Scout Camp that week-end will need

to register at the Council Service Center for a short term camping permit.

Registration:

Fill out the attached registration form and return it to the Council Service Center by 5PM on September 15th, 2008 (pre-registration) or bring it with you and hand in at the door.

Cost: Only $25.00 per participant (youth or adult) for pre-registration or pay $30.00 at the door. Non Venturing youth and adults are welcome to attend as guests of a Venturing crew or Sea Scout ship as long as they agree to follow all Venturing and BSA rules and guidelines. Be sure to also bring a GPS or compass and a class 1 physical.

Events: Among the activities will be, but not limited to:
□ Rifle Shooting
□ Archery
□ Muzzle Loading Rifle
□ Boating
□ Outdoor Movie
□ Shotgun Shooting
□ Pool Fun
□ Climbing and Rappelling
□ Handgun Shooting
□ Must be handgun trained

Adult participation is highly encouraged and expected!

The following activities and events are designed for Venture Crew member participation.

Venture Fall Activity - Sep 20 at Lost Pines

Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo - October 4 and 5, 2008
a fun day learning about the outdoor opportunities in the state of Texas

Webelos Woods - October 24-26, 2008 at Camp Mabry
A program for Scout Troops to demonstrate to Webelos (grade 4 and 5) the fun and adventure that awaits them when they join a Scout Troop.  A chance for Venture Crews to assist and be a mentor to younger Scouts.         

Hornaday Award Weekend - Oct 17-19, 2008 and Apr 17-19, 2009
Take advantage of this first class, home grown program that will help you earn merit badges or complete the journey to the BSA's Hornaday Award.

Camporee - Mar 6-8, 2009
Volunteer to help Webelos Scouts learn the basics of the Tenderfoot Trail and camp out on a gorgeous fall evening. Join us at the Armadillo District Camporee.

Report to State - Feb 7, 2009
opportunity to participate in a parade that has Scouts from across the state in attendance, witness the Scouting Report to the state government.

APO Venturing University - Feb 21, 2009 at UT
Special co-ed APO service fraternity-led program to allow Crew members to experience the nation's largest university and lots of older age activities around campus. Unique and not to be missed. Meet Crews from around the state.

Keep Texas Fed
- Apr 25, 2009
Help beat last year's record of 50,000 pounds of food collected for Central Texas food banks. You can make a difference in the lives of Central Texas adults and youth.

Venturing Shooting Sports Day - Apr 4
Have fun, camp at Lost Pines, learn the basics of safety while shooting a rifle, shotgun, and muzzle loading rifle.

C.O.P.E. - Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience - Scheduled by the Crew.
