New BSA Online Training Courses PDF Print E-mail
Written by Doug Rose
Monday, 08 June 2009

There is a lot of new, well-developed online training now available on the BSA Online Learning Center portal.

To enter you will be required to register. If you enter your BSA ID# and the Council # (564) the site will maintain a record of what you've started and completed.  This is handy for retreiving and printing a Youth Protection Training certificate necessary to attend any of the the Council Scout camps this summer, whether it's Capitol Area or another Texas Council. See below for more details.

Online Training

  • Youth Protection and Venturing Youth Protection
  • Fast Start for Cub, Boy Scout, Varsity, and Venture Leaders
  • Fast Start for Unit Commissioners
  • This is Scouting (NEW) - online replacement for New Leader Essentials
  • Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat
  • Hazardous Weather (NEW)
  • Scout Parents Unit Coordinator (NEW)
  • Troop Committee Challenge
  • Den Chief Training (NEW)
  • Generational Diversity (NEW)

Visit the BSA Online Learning Center to begin any of these training sessions. http://olc.scouting.org/

See David Maynard's Training page for lots of other great indoor and outdoor classroom training opportunities, from the Armadillo Fall Day of Training Sept. 26 to Powder Horn, Wood Badge, and new Aquatics training for swim and watercraft techniques. You'll find links there for these and many other Council training sessions.  Click here for the Training home page

Enroll with the Capitol Area Council #, which is 564, and your Scout volunteer ID#.  Your ID# can be found on your BSA registration card, through your Committee Chair, or embedded in the mailing label on your Scouting magazine cover - look at the line above your name and find your number, which is between the two # signs; ignore the leading zeros.

Scouting Magazine Mailing label:
#BXBFCFX*******
#000 yourIDnumber #564

Your Address

Your training will be recorded and you can print a training certificate at any time.

If you are not receiving Scouting magazine, a resource for adult volunteers, contact your Committee Chair or Bob Oatman at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . To view it online: http://www.scoutingmagazine.org/
