TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY

Public Information Office contacts for group presentations to promote understanding of the role of DPS and law enforcement agencies in Texas.

The Texas DPS Public Information Office, as part of its mission, makes available experienced officers for presentations about DPS programs and operations, including safety information, upon request. These officers are readily available and provide these presentation services as their main job responsibility. TEXAS LEGISLATURE

Contacts to arrange for Scouts to tour the Capitol to learn about our law making process and meet with their senators/representatives to discuss their roles and interests.

UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS SCHOOL OF LAW

Visits/presentations for Scouts to discuss Law School academic goals, curriculum, and legal careers with faculty representatives.

The Law School Dean is very interested to make appropriate faculty representatives available to groups to discuss educational opportunities, admissions, areas of specialty, and legal careers. Contact the Office of the Dean, and explain your interests. They will then arrange for selected faculty to meet with your troop. Dean Lawrence Sager, UT School of Law, 512-232-1120.

LAW MERIT BADGE

Guidance in offering key requirements.

Requirement #4 - can be fulfilled by contacting the TxDPS Public Information Office as described on this page.

Requirement #6 - can be fulfilled by substituting for the court visit by getting access to Court TV and viewing selected trials as described on this page. This substitution has been approved by the Armadillo District Advancement Chairperson.

CourtTV

To view recorded sessions of relevant civil and criminal proceedings of value to Scouts for Law Merit Badge requirements.

The Armadillo District Advancement Chair has approved substitution of appropriate CourtTV sessions for Law MB Requirement #6a. The merit badge counselor should be responsible for identifying appropriate CourtTV sessions for content and length and supervising the access and viewing.
