Armadillo District Webelos Woods,
October 24-26, 2008, Camp Mabry
Here I Come!
Don't miss the first of many exciting events during the scouting year to make the Webelos years special, and to help Webelos cross over to Boy Scouts. Join us at Camp Mabry in October 24th through 26th for an exciting weekend of outdoor activities.
Registration. Webelo dens and individual Webelos are encouraged to preregister on the Armadillo District web site until October 20th. On-site registration and camping set up will be available from 5:30 to 7:30 on Friday evening and from 7:30 to 8:30 on Saturday morning. There is a charge of $10 per boy and per adult for preregistration and a charge of $15 per boy and per adult for on-site registration. This fee covers costs of the event, the Saturday night meal, and a patch for each boy attending. If the fee is a barrier to a Webelo being able to attend, the Webelo den leader should contact Armadillo District staff.
Camping and Meals. Webelos are invited to camp Friday and/or Saturday nights. Those that cannot stay overnight should come for the day on Saturday. Camping and meals will be by Packs. Furnish your own camping gear, food and water, except for dinner Saturday night. There are portable toilets available on the grounds. Scout guidelines apply so there must be an adult guardian for each Webelo, including during the day Saturday. See the District website for fire regulations.
Friday Night Event. Our Friday night program is still under construction but we assure you that it will be a program not to miss that is fun for all. There will be a cracker barrel after the program.
Saturday Events. Here are some of the activities planned for Saturday, beginning at 9:00, to show Webelos and parents what Boy Scouts is all about.
During these demonstrations adult leaders from each troop will discuss their program with the parents.

Sunday Morning Events. The program will begin at 8:30 and conclude by 9:00. Campers should depart by 10:00.
Boy Scout Worship Service. Boy Scout campouts include a Sunday morning worship service led by the boys, and this one will be no exception. Along with the morning flag ceremonies, this will conclude the event.
Webelos Achievements at Webelos Woods We don't have the day geared toward traditional Webelos badge activities, because our key focus is on outdoor skills and activities that demonstrate the boy-led aspects of Boy Scouting. However, participating Webelos have the opportunity to satisfy several requirements:
-
Outdoorsman Activity Pin- all of this badge can be earned during the weekend if planned by your adults, for example, let the boys plan and cook lunch and breakfast, haul the gear and set up their tents. We will have a knot contest station.
-
Arrow of Light:
-
With your Webelos den, visit at least one Boy Scout troop meeting, and one Boy Scout-oriented outdoor activity.
-
Participate in a Webelos overnight campout or day hike.
-
§ Akela Award - The Akela Award is a program of the Armadillo District of the Capitol Area Council and is designed to assist our Webelos becoming Boy Scouts. There are six requirements, three of which are completed while a Webelo. Requirement #2: As a Webelos Scout, attend one Troop Court of Honor. The Saturday night program will satisfy this requirement.
Special Needs. We do not want cost or camping equipment to prevent any Webelo or adult partner from attending Webelo Woods. For assistance, please have the Webelo Den Leader or Cubmaster write or email Bob Oatman at the District office:
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
. If a Webelo does not have a tent, let Bob know and we will arrange for a troop to loan the Webelo a tent.
Need Additional Information? The District website has more details on the event. You can also preregister for the event and for the adult training courses.
