The Five Most Important Reasons You Should Get Trained

  1. Because every Youth Deserves a Trained Leader. It really is that simple. The youth in our programs, both boys and girls, deserve an awesome program, and an awesome program is more easily and more reliably delivered by an adult leader (like you!) who is trained for his or her position. Yes, you could figure it out on your own, but that takes time. You don’t need to re-invent the wheel; there is training available for all unit positions.
  2. Because every Parent Deserves Trained Leaders Working With Their Youth. While there are some adult leaders in the program who are not parents, most of us are. And the vast majority of parents in our program are parents of Scout-age children. We would not want our children taught by untrained teachers or coached by untrained coaches – why would we want our Scouts led by untrained leaders? As parents, we want every program in which we enroll our kids – whether it be school, sports leagues, dance classes, whatever – to be as awesome as possible. Trained leaders make that possible in Scouting.
  3. Because every Chartered Organization Deserves Trained Leaders for their Youth Programs. Your Chartered Organization – whether it be a religious institution, PTA, VFW Post, Elks Lodge, etc. – has chosen to use Scouting as its youth program or its outreach to youth. Your Chartered Organization has invested time, money, meeting space, and logistics into its Scouting program. Trained leaders can make those investments grow and pay dividends, by providing a fun, values-based program to the Chartered Organization’s youth.
  4. Because it Does Not Cost You Anything. Scouting provides training through both National-level resources and your Council Training Committee, and does so for FREE! The only investment you need to make is time, and training is always time well-spent.
  5. Because it’s Easy to Get Trained. It is easy to get trained for your position. Just log into your my.scouting.org account, click on the link for the BSA Learn Center, click on the link for your specific program, and find the Position-Specific Training for your position.
