Roundtable is Moving!
Written by Andrew Marks
Join us for the new, redesigned Roundtable in our new location! Meet at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive near 2222 and MoPac. Arrive at 6:45 p.m.; meeting starts at 7:00 and adjourns at 8:00. There are separate sessions for Cub Scout and Boy Scout topics.

The Cub Scout session will have breakouts for Tiger leaders, Wolf & Bear leaders, Webelos leaders, Cubmasters, Committee Chairs & members, and Chartered Org. Reps. Sit with your interest group and hear a speaker on a general topic, then your group leader will present info at your table to help you with the following month’s program in your Den or Pack. Planned general topics: Membership Recruiting & Retention (Aug.), Preview of the New Cub Scout Adventure Program (Sept.), and Successful Pinewood Derbies (Oct.).

The separate Boy Scout session will cover topics of interest for troops and special breakouts. For example, Sept. will bring a general topic on the Order of the Arrow and a special breakout on recharter.

Be sure to come to Covenant Presbyterian Church on the second Thurs. of every month for Roundtable!

Recharter for 2014
Written by Z Smith
Recharter does not have to be a long, drawn out, complicated, process. The key is to BE PREPARED!
By July 31, Committee Chairs should appoint someone in the unit to be the recharter contact person. This person will receive special training, communications, and materials directly. This is a committee function and should not be assigned to the Crew Advisor, Scoutmaster or Cubmaster. Please give this person's contact info to your unit commissioner.

During the Summer your unit committee (and youth leaders if a troop or crew) should approve a calendar and budget for the following year. You should plan on collecting dues beginning in September so you have funds to pay your recharter fees. There is budget and planning help online, including an Excel template to use for a budget.

Written by Tom McClure
National Council Advancement Chair, Diane Cannon, spoke at the Capitol Area Council's April 5 Advancement Academy about the Cub Scout program changes which will be effective at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. There has been a 3-4 year process where the program has been carefully re-aligned with the BSA Aims and Mission to give the boys the program they want and need.
