Experience the New Cub Scout Roundtable!
Written by Tom McClure

Arrive at 6:45 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 11 and meet the Boy Scouts from Troop 3, our Color Guard for the evening. Sit at the table for your leadership position (or your son’s rank level). The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. with a preview on the new exciting Cub Scout Adventure program that launches next June. Then stay at your breakout table to hear tips for next month’s program from your table leader, an experienced Scout leader. Plenty of time for Q&A! Meeting ends at 8:00 p.m.

Special feature this month: Seamstress on Duty! Drop off your shirt at 6:45 p.m., participate in Roundtable, and leave with a shirt that’s ready for uniform inspection! First come, first served. Nominal fee charged ($3/patch, $4/patch if on top of a pocket; $1/button sewn on; $10 for pants hemmed to a hemline you mark in advance. Check or cash only).

Roundtable meets the second Thursday of each month at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Dr. (SE corner of 2222 & MoPac). Follow us on Twitter @CubRoundtable. See you there!

Webelos Woods 2014 - Call of Duty
Written by Mark Katterjohn
The special ops mission is a go for Webelos Woods on November 15 and 16 at Smilin V Scout Ranch. The theme is Call of Duty and will involve Night Ops Missions culminating with a campfire. Sign-in and camp setup will begin Saturday afternoon and end after the Sunday morning service. Since we have the campground reserved for Friday night as well, we are encouraging Troops and Packs to come out on Friday night and camp together. More details and registration coming soon.
Camping Promotion Committee News
Written by Chip Coy

The start of the school year in central Texas is also the start of camping season!

Our council has several properties that can be used by your unit free of charge. Earlier this year the council went to online reservations for council properties, so getting a free place to camp is even easier! Check out the list of properties with links for reservations.

There are a large number of places to camp in central Texas. One of the services provided by the Tonkawa Lodge of the Order of the Arrow is to maintain a list of those places.

Did scouts from your unit attend a scout camp this summer? Please let the Camping Promotion Committee know how many of your scouts went to camp by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - all we need is the number of scouts who attended camp. Thanks in advance!

If your unit has any questions about camping please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and a member of the district camping committee will help!

Recharter for 2014
Written by Z Smith
Recharter does not have to be a long, drawn out, complicated, process. The key is to BE PREPARED!
By Aug 31, Committee Chairs should appoint someone in the unit to be the recharter contact person. This person will receive special training, communications, and materials directly. This is a committee function and should not be assigned to the Crew Advisor, Scoutmaster or Cubmaster. Please give this person's contact info to your unit commissioner.

During the Summer your unit committee (and youth leaders if a troop or crew) should approve a calendar and budget for the following year. You should plan on collecting dues beginning in September so you have funds to pay your recharter fees. There is budget and planning help online, including an Excel template to use for a budget.
